I have to say that, even understanding Britain's history of holding onto the evidence of its pillaging past, I can't quite grasp why they persist in not being willing to return the sculptures now.

The loot is in the British Museum and I think there is some law or something which says they can't return it.

disgraceful. Surely the lefties in charge of the UK might support some natural justice, or be anti-blatant theft

Great evocation of a place that is very significant in the West's heritage. I hope you are enjoying the late Greek summer. Here in Auckland as I type, the warm spring sun is before me but a freezing southerly behind - a contradiction characteristic of the season.

We actually returned to NZ on 24 August so this article and others like it are something of a retrospective although some of the writing was done in Athens. The weather was magnificent - warmth around the 30's - which made a mid-afternoon pint of Mythos taste glorious

Very impressive thanks David.

Your knowledge of history makes me most envious; it fascinates me, but I never got a chance to study it.

Given the Greek's admiration for Athena, it seems such a shame that we still have cultures/religions that don't treat women as equals (arguably superior in some respects)...
