Love it thanks David... we stopped there (I think) when we drove from La Canada to Las Vegas in 2002... The place we stopped at looks very similar. It was where there was a link from the new Highway 15 onto what was left of Route 66. Perhaps, "Cracker Barrel" or somewhere short of Barstow? Back then just a few old pickup trucks and wrecked cars around a garage... with a cafe/store. We stopped there because we saw a sign to the old '66. Sadly I didn't take any photos at the time. Did you get my email with photos of the place we stopped on Route 66? Looked rundown but a typical US "Diner" on the old R66... (it was not "Cracker Barrel" as i had thought... I found pictures that I shared. I also have family who live in Santa Monica.
