Administratively adjourned happens when a case is not formally called in Court but for one of a number of reasons may at the request of both parties or where one of the parties has no opposition be put off to another date. The practice developed over Covid and has continued. There is authority for it but my own view is that it is overused. I don't know why GG's case has been adjourned and I wouldn't care to speculate
I have no time for the behaviour or "politics", of the Greens, particularly James Shaw and his dubious degree or climate change nonsense; Marama Davidson and her arrogant and racist behavior, Chloe with her disrespect for parliament in her actions, and Golriz in representing disreputable people. However, no surprises the media reports were shameful and so were comments on social media of many of the public! What has happened to people here - or has it been here all the time and is just being recognized as in this particular situation. Disgraceful.
To be fair, I think Golriz was on the legal team for some disreputable people, but lawyers rarely get the opportunity to choose their clients. I represented some pretty unsavoury characters when I was in practice. They were entitled to the best representation I could give them. As Paul Temm (who was a QC and later a High Court Judge) said - we are the last of the mercenaries. We take up a sword for whoever pays the fee.
A coarsening of the discourse & I lay the blame squarely at those peddling the modern manias. Look at the Albert Park riot that got the backing, or at best the hands off approach of the Police & the media.
Tough for me as I really despise what the Greens have become, so I took some pleasure in the scandal.
I also wonder what business the party had contacting the store? Is it not a matter between Golriz, the police and the store in question?
But you are correct justice must always be blind and should be meted as evenly to people I like as to those I don't.
Tim
As to your first sentence I think the term is schadenfreude.
The whole thing was mishandled from the outset. I wonder if the Greens were trying to sweep the business under the rug.
GG is entitled to the presumption of innocence. I see her case has been "administratively adjourned" until the end of February.
Thanks for your comment.
Definitely schadenfreude. Not a great character trait to be sure.
She is entitled to presumption of innocence, you are 100% correct.
What does "administratively adjourned" mean?

Thanks for the explanation.
A course in civics is definitely needed here.

Fair enough...
I was a court reporter in the Magistrates Court in Wellington mid 70's. Mike Bungay comes to mind.

Yes, agree.
Yes. But the 'sniff test' David...far more fun.
Hi Hilary
Quite - but I think "smells fishy" doesn't quite cross the "beyond reasonable doubt" threshold.
Thanks for the comment.
